extension of time/loss and expense claims
Construction projects involve a set sequence of activities, but it is common for events to occur which delay or disrupt the progress of the works – and which may, as a result, affect the contractor’s ability to complete the works by the agreed date.
Delay and disruption are one of the most common causes of claims and disputes on construction projects. We can advise on the contractual obligations that a party is under (whether client, employer or contractor) when the progress of the works is affected by delay and/or disruption. This includes:
- Advice on the time periods for giving notice of what has occurred – and the impact on the works
- The steps to take to mitigate the effects of any delay
- Interrogation of the alleged causes of delay – and their impact on the progress of the project
- Preparing claims for additional time to complete the works – and financial recompense where appropriate
