Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors Celebrates 50 years of Specialist Legal Advice in Milton Keynes.

Over the next 12 months Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors LLP will be celebrating 50 years of providing legal advice to businesses and individuals, locally, nationally and internationally.

The world was a very different place 50 years ago in 1965 when Geoffrey Leaver embraced the vision for the “New City” of Milton Keynes. He left his home in Lancashire and put his brass plate up on the High Street in Fenny Stratford to announce his arrival in the area. Embracing the “can do” attitude was the hall mark of the early settlers in Milton Keynes. He worked all available hours, preparing the office accounts on a Sunday was his main leisure pursuit. It was very much a family effort with his wife Ann acting as receptionist with their daughter Helen in a pram at the back of the office.

Geoffrey’s philosophy was to work hard and look after his clients and he quickly found that approach reaped rewards as his business grew rapidly.

With Milton Keynes becoming a designated new town in January 1967, the firm benefited from instructions from the Milton Keynes Development Corporation. The arrival of Brian Charlton (for a salary of £4400) in 1975 saw the establishment of the firm’s litigation services.

In the late 80’s no doubt buoyed by the strength of the economy (who can forget the YUPPIE’s and DINKY’s), the firm made the decision to move to its current location just off Silbury Boulevard, arriving in June 1990, just as the recession of early nineties really started to bite.   To combat the reduction of work in the locality the firm started to look further afield and began attracting work nationally and internationally, while at the same time focussing on the local business community that thrived despite the difficult trading environment.

Today, the firm has 16 partners, a number of whom are accredited specialists in the Legal 500 and Chambers Directory.

From May 2015 Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors will be organising various events to celebrate its 50th Anniversary.  At Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors they believe that being a successful business is about more than just delivering a high quality, specialist service to their clients so their Anniversary year involves activities to help the local Milton Keynes community; such as working with The Parks Trust, organising a sponsored 50km bike ride for staff around Milton Keynes in aid of Willen Hospice and the Road Victims Trust, and awarding £500 to a junior sports club in a Facebook competition.

Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors recognise that they are fortunate to have been based within such an exciting business community for the past 50 years and in recognition the partners and staff have sought to support local schools, charities and organisations by becoming governors and trustees.

To start the celebrations Geoffrey Leaver Partners delivered 500 cupcakes to local businesses and charities. To follow the firm’s 50th celebrations like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter @GLeaverLLP.
