The government has made some recent announcements which include:
Increase to a weeks’ pay and compensatory award as from 6th April 2014
As from the 6th April 2014 the maximum ‘week’s pay’, for the purposes of calculating statutory redundancy and the basic award, increases from £450 to £464. The maximum compensatory award, in the cases of unfair dismissal also increases from £74,200 to £76,574 or one years’ gross pay, whichever is the lower figure.
As from the 6th April 2014 new rules come in to force that will require employees to contact ACAS before issuing a claim at the Employment Tribunal – although there is no obligation for them to engage in the conciliation. ACAS will then, for up to one month, make reasonable attempts to contact both parties to endeavour to promote a settlement.
