Everyone experiences stress. However, certain types of stress, such as PTSD, can be physically and psychologically harmful. PTSD is a severe emotional reaction to a disturbing or shocking experience, such as a life-threatening event, and may be evident in a change of character, depression and/or increased anxiety.

Who can claim?

There are two classes of claimant:

  • if you are directly involved in an accident/event, for example as a passenger in a road traffic accident; or
  • if you have been a witness to an accident/event, for example if you were present at the Hillsborough Football disaster.
