What is a Needle injury?

A needle injury occurs when you have had a hypodermic needle accidentally penetrate through your skin.

Why are needle injuries a problem?

If you have suffered from a needle injury then there is a risk of infection, such as contracting HIV or Hepatitis B or C which can lead to liver disease. There is also the possibility of tetanus if the needle has been contaminated by soil. It is therefore of the utmost importance that you are tested for any such infection as soon as possible after the accident.

Such serious infections means that waste collectors have been awarded compensation for the worry and anxiety caused after a needle injury, even if the infection was not contracted.
