Construction projects are increasingly subject to Government legislation and regulations.
This can range from issues affecting the land being developed where, for instance, contaminated land is discovered to the improved management of waste by producing site waste management plans. There is expected to be increasing regulation to meet the targets set out in the Government's strategy on sustainable construction.
In addition, there are a wide range of regulations affecting Health & Safety issues and working practices. There is also now greater personal responsibility for such matters under the Corporate Manslaughter & Corporate Homicide Act 2007 and the Bribery Act 2010.
Failure to abide by the regulations can lead to fines and in some cases imprisonment.
