PI Overview

Construction projects involve a wide variety of legal issues. At Geoffrey Leaver we have extensive and proven expertise in providing clients with competitive and affordable practical legal advice and commercial solutions in all aspects of construction and property development projects.

We act for developers, contractors and professionals and, in conjunction with our Property Development team, we are able to offer our clients advice and assistance with specialise in:

  • advising on issues affecting a property and its purchase
  • applying for planning permission
  • drafting of and advising on development agreements (both commercial and residential)
  • securing finance
  • drafting of and advising on contract documents, collateral warranties, bonds and guarantees
  • advising on dispute avoidance and resolution
  • representing clients in adjudication, arbitration, legal proceedings, ADR and mediation.

We also act for Housing Associations, Charities, Banks and lending institutions to protect their interests either in respect of the finance being provided or the building they are looking to take possesion of once the project is complete.

By involving our team at an early stage we can assist with setting up the framework for the project, advising on specific risks and helping to avoid the potential for disputes as the project progresses. This can often lead to costs being saved later in the project.

Unfortunately things often do not go as planned on construction projects. Richard Millard is recognised for his grasp of a wide variety of legal issues and specialises in construction litigation. He works closely with his clients on the interpretation of contracts and what is happening on site to advise on the best course of action to avoid and resolve disputes or where necessary to maximise the prospects of a successful outcome in any subsequent dispute resolution process.
