Construction & Property Development Conference
The property and construction markets have always been complex but with a new government in the driving seat, changes and chances are coming thick and fast.
To keep abreast, construction and property professionals are already booking into Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors’ Annual Construction and Property Development Conference. This will be the fourth conference, held for the first time at the stadium:mk, and will be on Thursday January 20, offering an enlightening and focused start to the New Year.
Geoffrey Leavers’ conference always attracts delegates from every sector, including house builders, contractors, developers, housing associations, architects surveyors and landlords and other professionals. Melissa Page, partner in the Construction and Property Development team, says: “The previous conferences were a huge success and we are delighted this is now an established event in the calendar.”
Hot topics this year include the opportunities arising from the Great British Refurb and the Green Deal, which the government says will create 100,000 new jobs in home refurbishment by 2015 and make funds available to landlords. Energy expert Peter Rickaby of Peter Rickaby Associates will look at what’s involved.
Richard Millard from Geoffrey Leaver will highlight key legal cases from the past year and flag up changes to the law that will affect employers in the construction and property industry.
Better value for money can be achieved by clients using the best contracts and Colin Ashwood of Currie & Brown will be examining evidence that there is a shift in procurement methods and types of construction contracts.
There has been a rush to pre-register new homes - 178,400 in fact – before the changes to Building Regulations add £5000 to the cost of a house following the introduction of tough new energy standards in October. Colin Blatchford-Brown of NHBC will be setting out exactly what the new regulations require.
Barrister Peter Brogden of Keating Chambers will be helping delegates avoid the pitfalls when dealing with delay notices and extension of time claims.
Richard Millard sums up: “In the current climate it is important to understand and be on top of the issues affecting construction and property development. We think we have a diverse range of subjects that should reveal opportunities to all our delegates. If they go home with at least one idea of something their business should be doing – or not doing – that must be £50 of their money well spent.”
